Treatment of hernias with folk remedies at home

The term «hernia» refers to a protrusion of the wall of a body cavity, most often the abdominal cavity. This condition displaces a nearby organ and is considered a serious anatomical abnormality that can lead to various complications. The use of folk remedies for hernia treatment significantly increases the risk of complications, and in most cases, the development of anatomical abnormalities that require surgical intervention to repair the integrity of the body wall.

The basis of modern classification is their localization, according to which the following types of defects are distinguished:

  • The inguinal is a bulge of the anterolateral wall of the abdomen, which is an area of the anatomic formation of the inguinal canal.
  • Ventral is the most common type, in which the bulge forms directly from the abdominal wall.
  • Umbilical — a hernia sac is formed directly from the umbilical ring of the anterior abdominal wall.
  • Femoral — abdominal contents (more often a loop of small bowel) are moved into the femoral canal.

Also, there are two types of hernia displacement: pinched and unpinched. The pinched type is more dangerous because it can lead to a sharp decrease in blood supply to the organ inside the hernia, which can cause necrosis (death of part of the organ).

Home hernia treatments

There are various methods for treating this condition at home, which usually involve the use of folk remedies. For example, the treatment of an umbilical hernia with folk remedies may involve performing massage (in which the hernia contents are tried to be repositioned) and taking infusions or compresses made from medicinal plants, such as plakun-grass.

Treatment of inguinal hernias with folk remedies involves taking decoctions of clover, kupena, and gooseberry, as well as applying compresses made from fern, vinegar, and oak infusion. These therapeutic measures can be effective, but they can also lead to complications, especially if they are used independently without the guidance of a medical professional. Therefore, it is not advisable to start treatment for inguinal hernias using folk remedies without consulting a doctor or other qualified healthcare provider.

How to treat a hernia at home

Home treatment can only be considered after a medical consultation and diagnosis. Small, inoperable defects with a low risk of impingement can be treated conservatively at home. This treatment includes the use of medications that reduce inflammation and improve the elasticity and strength of abdominal tissues. The doctor may also recommend wearing a special support bandage to reduce the load on the area with the defect and performing a special massage. These measures are similar to those used to treat inguinal hernias at home.

Inpatient treatment

The surgical department of the SKZhD hospital in Rostov-on-Don performs special surgical interventions aimed at radical elimination of the defect. If necessary, if indicated, the surgeon performs plastic of the abdominal wall in order to strengthen it and prevent further new formation of the integrity defect.

The main number of complications with the development of necrosis of the small intestinal loop to date are a result of self-medication. Therefore, for effective relief from this defect of the abdominal wall, it is necessary to consult a qualified specialist physician in a medical facility.
